Is Shockwave Therapy Right for You?

If tendon or heel pain persists despite treatment, start with a physiotherapy assessment to discuss whether shockwave is suitable.

Plantar fasciitis

Heel pain that's worse in the morning or after sitting — one of the most-treated conditions with shockwave therapy.

Achilles tendinopathy

Chronic stiffness or pain at the back of the ankle that limits walking, running, or daily movement.

Tennis or golfer's elbow

Persistent elbow pain that hasn't responded to rest, bracing, or physiotherapy exercises alone.

Knee pain

Patellar tendinopathy, IT band syndrome, or runner's knee — common in active patients and office workers alike.

Shoulder pain assessment

Start with a shoulder assessment. NICE recommends shockwave for calcific shoulder tendinopathy only in research.

Chronic lower back pain

Myofascial trigger points, deep muscle tension, and spasm that have persisted despite other treatment.

What Is Shockwave Therapy?

A non-invasive option to discuss for persistent tendon or heel pain.

UNDERSTANDING THE TREATMENT

Radial shockwave therapy delivers mechanical pulses through the skin. It may be considered for some persistent tendon or heel problems after a physiotherapy assessment.

A handheld applicator delivers pulses to the treatment area. Your physiotherapist selects the settings and explains the possible benefits, uncertainties and alternatives for your condition.

The aim is to improve pain and function alongside your rehabilitation plan. Response varies, and your physiotherapist reviews progress and gives individual aftercare advice.

Radial Shockwave Follow-up

£70

Your treatment plan

An Initial Physiotherapy Assessment is £70 (45 minutes). Shockwave, if recommended, costs an additional £70; a standard standalone follow-up is 10 minutes. Settings and pulse count follow your treatment plan.

Clinical evidence

Evidence varies by condition. NICE notes uncertainty for plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendinopathy. For calcific shoulder tendinopathy, NICE recommends shockwave only in research. We discuss benefits, risks and alternatives.
