Device - Assisted Therapy

At J&J Therapy, we use advanced electrotherapy modalities to enhance your treatment and recovery. Our approach is unique – we integrate modern tools like Ultrasound, TENS, and Pneumatic Compression with hands-on therapeutic massage, providing a more comprehensive and effective treatment than you’ll find at standard clinics. All these services are delivered under the supervision of our HCPC-registered physiotherapist and experienced clinical massage therapists trained in Korean manual therapy. This means you receive cutting-edge care in a safe, professional environment, with a personal touch that prioritises your comfort and results.

Pneumatic Compression Therapy

Pneumatic compression therapy uses specialised inflatable sleeves or boots that wrap around your limbs (often the legs). A machine gently pumps air in and out of these sleeves, causing them to squeeze and release your limbs in a rhythmic massage-like motion. This wave of pressure boosts blood circulation and helps move along any excess fluid that’s pooled in the limbs. As a result, swelling is reduced and fresh, oxygen-rich blood can reach your muscles more effectively. The treatment is excellent for improving lymphatic flow and easing that heavy, fatigued feeling in the legs. People commonly use pneumatic compression to relieve swollen ankles or puffy legs (for example, after long periods of sitting/standing or long flights) and to manage conditions like lymphoedema (chronic fluid build-up causing swelling). It’s also popular for speeding up muscle recovery after intense exercise or sports injuries, because it helps decrease soreness and muscle stiffness by flushing out metabolic waste and bringing in nutrients for healing

What to expect at J&J Therapy

We often provide pneumatic compression therapy after your main session, giving you an added recovery boost before you go home. Following your massage or physiotherapy treatment, you’ll be comfortably fitted with the compression sleeves and can simply unwind for a few minutes while the device works its magic. The gentle pressure cycles further relax your muscles and assist in reducing any remaining swelling from the treatment. This is an advanced recovery method not commonly available at most ordinary clinics – but we include it to ensure you leave feeling lighter, refreshed, and less sore. By blending this modern modality with our traditional hands-on approach, we accelerate your body’s healing in a way that standalone treatments can’t. As always, our trained staff monitors the process and adjusts the pressure to suit your comfort and needs, so you can fully enjoy the benefits of a high-tech therapeutic boost in a completely safe environment.

Ultrasound Therapy

Ultrasound therapy uses high-frequency sound waves to treat painful or injured areas deep under the skin. A small handheld probe delivers these sound waves into your tissues, creating gentle vibrations and a soothing warmth. This warmth boosts blood circulation to the area, bringing more oxygen and nutrients to help repair damaged tissues and reduce swelling. It also helps relax tight muscles and ease stiffness or spasms. Thanks to these effects, ultrasound is often used for soft-tissue injuries like tendonitis, muscle strains or ligament sprains, and to alleviate deep muscle or joint pain.

What makes our Ultrasound Therapy different?

At J&J Therapy, ultrasound is applied during your session as a seamless part of the treatment. We frequently combine therapeutic ultrasound with our manual massage techniques on the same area, enhancing its healing impact. The sound waves work hand-in-hand with skilled hands-on therapy to loosen tissues and relieve pain more effectively. This integrated approach means you experience relief that is both faster and longer-lasting than ultrasound alone could achieve. Unlike many clinics where ultrasound might be a quick standalone procedure, we use it as one component of a broader, personalised plan – always guided by our expert team to target exactly where you need it most for maximum benefit.

TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation)

TENS therapy involves a small device that sends mild electrical pulses through soft pads placed on your skin. These gentle electrical impulses stimulate your nerves in a way that helps to block pain signals from reaching the brain. At the same time, TENS encourages the release of endorphins – your body’s natural painkillers – to further reduce discomfort. The sensation is often described as a light tingling or buzzing feeling, which many people find quite soothing. TENS is a safe, drug-free method for managing pain and is commonly used for both chronic and acute conditions. For example, it can help ease persistent back or neck pain, arthritic joint pain, or muscle aches after an injury by interrupting pain pathways and calming irritated nerves

How we use TENS at J&J Therapy

We typically apply TENS after your main hands-on treatment, as a comforting add-on to enhance your recovery. Once we’ve finished working on your muscles and joints with massage and any exercises, we’ll have you relax with TENS pads positioned on the area that needs relief. You can simply lie back in a comfortable state while the gentle pulses do their work. This post-session electrotherapy helps maintain the pain relief you’ve gained from treatment, keeps muscle tension at bay, and promotes further circulation – all while you rest. Unlike many providers who use TENS in isolation or might just send you home with a machine, we integrate it into your care under professional guidance for maximum benefit. In practical terms, TENS becomes an effective finishing touch to your session, leaving you feeling more comfortable and ensuring the pain-relieving effects continue even after you leave our clinic.
